If CFR and R0 are the only stats we need to concern ourselves with. Why didn't we all get Ebola? Ebola etiology ("transmission methodology") is clearly understood ... also, "reservoirs" and "vectors" ... the intersection of these three understood facts allowed for a public health intervention and vigorous disease surveillance that enabled western powers to intercept infection and outbreaks *before* Ebola got to large, dense, poor urban centers ... these interventions allowed the Ebola to "burn itself out" while still constrained to remote, rural villages
