I try to keep politics out of this pandemic blog … who did what, when, why and how doesn’t mean a lot now that we’re in the soup … But adding insult to injury after months of injury is going to cost lives … STOP!!
The virus was coming, and our dear leader couldn’t control that … Even the initial Federal response, as imbecilic as it was, was a function of the proclivities of the leader we “elected” … POTUS rejected 15 years of pandemic preparation and recommendation, all to respond by “gut instinct” – OK … that was part of the leadership package we “chose”
So now we are here, 25K+ dead (more to come), the economy in tatters, folks wondering where their next meal is coming from, social distancing, masks & gloves, wondering if that nagging cough is a death sentence, minority communities getting sick and dying at rates that even the most pessimistic of my peers would never have imagined, nursing homes being glorified death centers, etc... … Thank you “battleground” states, although the overwhelming majority of Americans voted for another, our Electoral College gave us “45” … our system delivered us our current leader – kudos to giving WI’ites 48x the voting “power” of a NY/CA resident … yay democracy … we spent 2+ TRILLION DOLLARS, mostly to prop up failed businesses owned by millionaires and billionaires (we could have given every taxpayer $15-20,000 and told them to go live their lives – arguably a better allocation of $$)
SARS-CoV-2 has taught us that healthcare for some is protection for none … so now, our dear leader is cutting funding for the World Health Organization????!!! … this mindnumbing stupidity has to stop at some point … allowing 2.5 billion people living in societies with minimal healthcare and no economic backstop to fend for themselves, PUTS AMERICANS AT RISK … in terms of ROI, the paltry amount of money the US spends supporting the WHO returns 100x in comparison to any other CoVID-19 investment
More to come...

“Oh, you didn’t do so well in advising us about COVID? Well, we’ll cut your funding during the worst pandemic in 100 years to assure you’ll do worse going forward.” -Stable Genius
At a point, life becomes politics and politics is life. We can't avoid it at this point because our leadership has politicized this pandemic in an election year. What strikes me are 2 little news pieces I read today. One expresses the growing GOP thought process that we may have to lose some people to save the economy, and the other is the statement by the editor and chief of the Lancet stating that defunding the WHO in the middle of a global pandemic is a crime against humanity. This is what we are down to and it might behoove all Americans to think hard about who we are and how we want to move forward as human beings.
